HOUSE, FIRST INSTALLMENT : 7 ROOMS is the
production of eight local and international artists
who have spent one month installing their works
in a 1920 Victorian house in Savannah, GA, prior
to its renovation and restoration.

This exhibition addresses some of the pretension
often associated with stark and unapproachable
gallery environments by expanding upon and
moving beyond the gallery by presenting works
in one of our most personal and sacred spaces –
the home.

Though each of the works in the show is
significant in its own right, the format of this
exhibition is also designed to pose some larger
questions regarding the nature of art in the home
environment - the commodification of art implicit
in the gallery environment, the role played by
the viewer in the reception of an artwork, and the
social dynamics of our most cherished art world
tradition: the wine & cheese opening. The use of a
historic home for this exhibition suggests that you
throw away everything you think you know about
art in the home environment, and to pay close
attention because you might be surprised with
what you find.

This unique event is brought to you by HOUSEART -
dedicated to boldly presenting art that is progressive
yet approachable. HOUSEART knows no bounds in
its pursuit of redefining gallery, artist and viewer
relationships through the use of residential spaces.
