FOYER
LUKEJOHN DICKSON

The crawl space of this house has been excavated
over the course of four weeks. The contents of the
findings reveals a glimpse into our past over the last
85 years since the construction of the house in 1920.
Trash and debris, rubble, rotten wood, clothing, bones,
soda and beer bottles, toys, newspapers and other
artifacts are all part of this story. These findings
suggests that there have been several inhabitants of
the crawl space over the years. The most recent
occupancy was from early 2004 found from newspaper
stuffing in a “living room” space built from scrap
metal and wood underneath the front porch.

What were the circumstances in these individuals
lives that brought them to live in the crawl space at
1502 Habersham Street? The excavated artifacts
lead us to question the perception of what makes a
home and prompt us to ask the question - how well
do you know your neighbors? Who really lived there?
How long did they live there? Where are they now?

Many thanks to all those who made this work possible especially
Ian Dickson, Debi Dickson and Amy Dickensheets.
