About the artist
A three-time winner of the Taste of Savannah People's Choice
award (2001, 2002 and 2003), chef and restaurant owner
John H. Baker III is a culinary innovator whose creations are
anchored in the traditions of the Low Country cuisine of his
native coastal Georgia.
Baker has been featured on The Learning Channel,
The Discovery Channel, HGTV, Public Television and QVC's
"Cooking with Bob," and he has served celebrities from
Barbara Striesand to Ben Affleck. Baker was born and
raised 10 miles south of Savannah on the Isle of Hope. Many
hot summer days were spent there with his grandmother,
for whom evening dinners grew out of lazy days spent
crabbing, picking and preparing food for the docks and porches
near the water's edge.
Today Baker operates Queeny's To Go-Go (1611 Habersham
St.), a Savannah restaurant specializing in soul food. And jewel
of his crown is the catering business "John H. Baker III/Creative
Events and Marketing."
